Lining both sides of the pier way, shops and buildings have been built upon stilts, allowing them to rest above the waves, their windows offering a beautiful view out over the oceans beautiful blue waves.

  • People move along at a leisurely pace.
  • Tables scatter various parts of the pier, often outside cafe's.
  • Specialty shops, clothing shops, & tourist traps are all found here.
  • Colorful awnings along the storefronts create an almost cinematic look.
  • Culture Corner
  • Copper Tap Coffee House

Early Sunday morning and, thankfully, Donovan has the day off from work. Though the sky is grey and overcast with cold rain falling from the sky, he finds himself seated at one of the outside tables under the awning that belongs to the Copper Tap Coffee House. Set in front of him is a cup of coffee, still hot judging from the steam rising from the liquid and a to-go container from the Ribs and Wings place next door which, surprisingly enough, contains both ribs and wings. Donovan is currently reading from a Kindle, occasionally glancing up to observe his surroundings with mild interest before returning his attention to his book while eating a chicken wing. (re)

"You really take the artsy vibe to heart, don't you?" Enter Kelly. Shaking off raindrops, the young man seems, based on his dampness, to have been relatively unprepared for the small storm. He's soaked, though the black hoodie (wet as it is) at least protects him from some of the chill in the air. To his credit, he at least has a cup in his hand, the contents warm and still steamy as well. "How'd it go with shorty the other day? I'm pretty sure she wants your junk." Ahem.
Umbrella against hair ruining rain, check. Cute handbag and matching shoes, double check. While the Boardwalk might not be home to the most trending of shops there are some hidden treasures that call it home and being that shopping is one of Isabelle's favorite pastimes she's found her way out despite the rain. Of course she's not carrying the shopping bags or the umbrella, she has a Freshman for that. Clicking heels come to a stop in front of the boys' table and once under the safety of the awning, "Double mocha latte, soy, no whip." she tells the freshman who goes scurrying inside to fetch the drink with a wave of the girl's hand. "Don't tell me he's corrupting you already Donovan," the girl addresses the boys.
Donovan glances up from his book as he hears Kelly's voice, smirking slightly. "Hey. I'm from Seattle. I'm use to the rain." He says with a slight chuckle to his voice. He sets the wing down and picks up his coffee to take a drink, probably the something he ordered last time just without the extra shots. "Why don't you have a seat?" He asks, nodding towards one of the empty chairs. The next question that comes from Kelly causes Donovan to shake his head. "I don't think she wants my junk, but it went fine. We're going to be doing a collaboration sometime soon." He adds just as the sound of clicking heels on the wooden planks is heard. He leans slightly to the side to see who it is, spotting Isabelle moving along with the freshman. "Hey Kelly, isn't that the girl you wanna get with?" He asks, nodding towards her. As she arrives near them with the freshman, he just shakes his head slightly as she makes the freshman go get her drink. He shrugs his shoulders at her comment, shaking his head slightly. "Not anymore than usual." He offers to her before looking back to Kelly with a look that asks, 'How the fuck does she know my name?'. Which is valid considering Isabelle's station at school and in town compared to his own.
Kelly snorts, "Suureee. And Ellis likes to study." He even toss up air quotations, but he also rolls his eyes. Maybe he's full of shit. Maybe he's not. Still, his attention drifts from the conversation toward the chair, which he settles into easily enough. "I mean, she completely ignored my existence, and I'm like ten times better looking so..shes got to want your junk." Then again, his voice almost cracks at the sudden entrance of the girl. He lowers his head and for a moment he actually twitch deeper into his hoodie. "Don't look at it." He warns with a groan, "It's evil. It'll suck your soul dry and eat your first born." In otherwords, ABORT!
Invited or not, after a quick check to ensure the chair is dry, Isabelle takes a seat across from the boys. Perfectly manicured nails idly tap against the table top as she waits for the freshman to return with her drink. "You do realize people will only give you so long of a grace period before they start to associate you with the people around you. Fair warning." Its a moment latter that her drink is delivered and after a tiny sip she hands it back. "This isn't soy. I specifically said soy," she reminds, handing back to the freshman. "Just, go entertain yourself," she shoos them off.
Donovan smirks as he listens to Kelly, just shaking his head. "Maybe it's just because she wants help with her art and she knows I'm better at it than you are." He says with a soft chuckle again before he takes another sip from his drink before he looks back to Isabelle as she invites herself to sit at the table. "Have a seat." He offers to her before he sets his cup down along with the Kindle. Her comment about the grace period does cause him to raise an eyebrow slightly. "Well, it's a good thing I don't really care what people think about me and if that..." He says, pointing towards the freshman she has with her. "...is any indication of what I can expect by being with the 'cool kids', I'll pass. I'm not into slave labor." He makes quotation marks in the air with his fingers when he says 'cool kids'.
Kelly snorts, though as she settles at their table, he allows a slow glance toward the diva. "Hi, Isabelle." He drones out, as if well aware of the comments to come. "What sins have we committed to bring you to our humble company?"
"Freshmen have to earn their place. I didn't make the rules," Isabelle replies with a shrug. Those were made generations ago. "Some just don't have the raw talent or connections to find it on day one. Besides everyone needs a mentor," she adds pulling out a charming smile for the pair. "Really, Kelly isn't so bad, he just takes a bad wrap," the girl explains, "but without the right offset.. well it could reflect poorly." That smile turns towards Kelly next, "Oh, nothing that I've heard, I just wanted to get out of the rain and then when I saw him," a nod goes towards Donovan, "I wanted to give the new guy a fair chance."
Donovan can't help but chuckle at Kelly's question to Isabelle, picking up a hot wing and eats it, seeming to enjoy it. "Well, I appreciate you trying to give me a chance, but I'm cool with who I am. I'm not really into all that high school politics and whatnot. I got enough of that my freshman year and I didn't have to earn anything." He says with a slight shrug of his shoulders. "But if you want me to draw you, your boyfriend or your boyfriend's car, let me know. But I don't care what people think about me or the people who I hang out with." He says, finishing off the wing and then picks up a rib and starts to bring it towards his mouth before he pauses and offers it to Isabelle. "Rib?" He asks, holding the rib out towards her, the sauce dripping from it and onto the table. "It's really good." He adds with a smirk.
Kelly grins, deeply even as he watches the exchange. He especially seems to enjoy the offer of the rib and leans in a bit more. He doesn't comment parse, but he does grin and even sends Isa a wink. HA! You have no power here demon!!!
Isabelle narrows her eyes a Kelly, she may not have as much in this particular setting as she does elsewhere, but its not all about power. "No thank you," she replies politely shaking her head at Donovan's offer, turning a smile to him. "But do be a dear and let Ellie know we missed her at the luncheon yesterday."
Donovan shrugs his shoulders slightly as Isabelle rejects the offer of the rib. "You don't know what you're missing." He says just before he pulls off a chunk of meat with his teeth and eats it, speaking once again when his mouth is empty. He raises an eyebrow slightly at the mention of Ellis, but nods anyway. "Sure. Does she have your number or should I give that to her too?" He asks Isabelle before taking another bite from the rib, the sauce ending up on his cheeks and either side of his mouth. A few seconds pass before he looks to Kelly and asks, "What's a luncheon?"
"A luncheon is what snobby girls call gossip sessions." Kelly allows, smirking at his friends messiness. "It's like their spawning period before they go out into the world and devour poor unsuspecting souls. And they like messing with Ellis." He groans, glaring over toward Isa before he sighs. "She's their queen bee, and the Square is like their mother ship, only because we don't have a mall."
"Oh no, she has it," Isabelle assures with a laugh. "And I do know what I missing. They're aren't terrible," she says of the ribs. She's just not in the mood for them today, or more likely the mess that comes with eating them. Her nose wrinkles in mild disgust at the sauce left on Donovan's face, its fleeting however and soon enough that subtle smirk of a smile returns. "Its a formal lunch," she semi-corrects, "Sort of a Mother-Daughter thing, but I am glad to hear you think so highly of me Kelly."
Donovan raises an eyebrow slightly at Kelly's explanation, nodding his head slightly. "Yeah, we don't have those back home." He says before he looks to Isabelle as Kelly refers to her as the Queen Bee. "So, you're one of those self entitled spoiled brats that was handed everything on a silver spoon?" He asks, not trying to sound mean or anything, but genuinely curious. "We had girls like that at the school I went to. Some of them were actually pretty nice when you got to know them, but the hard part was getting them to let you get to know them."
"Isa will let you know her." Kelly teases, lifting his cup to take a drink, though he sends the girl a glance over the cups rim. "She's all kinda of friendly. Or she used to be..with proper encouragement." Someone wore his #1 asshole hat to the boardwalk today! "Aint that right Hell-Belle?"
"I wouldn't say that exactly, though my family is well-off," Isabelle replies, still smiling despite the sour look she sends Kelly. To Donovan, "I tried to give you the option, its not my fault if you decline the invitation. And you," she turns back to the blonde, "I'd be careful if you don't want your name in the paper. Mrs. Parker is still rather peeved about that gnome that was mysteriously broken last month."
Donovan shakes his head again at Kelly. "That's not really what I had in mind." He says simply, giving the kid a facepalm. He takes a deep breath before he looks back to Isabelle as she speaks. "Well, I appreciate the invitation, but I just don't care for cliques and such. If they're nice to me and those I hang out with, I'll hang with them." The mention of the gnome does cause Donovan to give Kelly another curious look, wondering what the story with that is all about.
"No proof." Kelly spouts back at Isabelle, "But, speaking of proof.." he fishes his phone out, pressing a few buttons as he chuckles, "I'd be careful if I were you too..camera phones have a nasty way of turning on at the worst possible moment. Especially at Doug's parties..." He turns the phone toward the girl, allowing her to glimpse a picture before he pulls it away. "You're parent may have me killed, but I'll go with a smile on my face..and she STILL wont be able to prove I killed her stupid ass gnome. Which, by the way, was creepy as hell and very inappropriate for a neighborhood with small children in it." Yes, he shivers.
If looks could kill, the glare Isabelle turns on Kelly would certainly paralyze at the very least. "Kelly Black," a veiled threat of unspoken outcome if that picture ever gets out. She at least knows better than to demand he delete it on the spot. "Just remember what you said about camera phones. I have a few of my own pictures." Her dark gaze turns back to Donovan, a smile lightening the mood if only slightly, "Yes, well if you enjoy the company of the extortionists you're currently keeping company with then that's your choice."
Donovan raises his eyebrows in surprise at the exchange between the two, looking back and forth between Kelly and Isabelle. He does try to lean over to get a look at the picture, but doesn't get a good look at it at all. He sits back in his chair before he looks back to Isabelle as she mentions him keeping company with an extortionist. "Yeah, but didn't you just try to blackmail him with the whole gnome thing? That's pretty much the same thing." He states simply. "He was just protecting himself against your threat." He adds, glancing back to Kelly.
Kelly simply lets tilts his head, a hand lifting point lazily toward Don. Ahem. He also grins as the phone is tucked away into his pocket, "Don't be mad Isa. It's no big deal. I'm not going to show anyone." He is after all, not nearly as bad as people say. "Chill out. You're going to get wrinkles."
"Oh, that wasn't blackmail, that was a warning," Isabelle clarifies for Donovan. Its a subtle difference, but in her world its a difference none the less. "And I'm not mad," she adds for Kelly. Wrinkles don't get a rise out of her, but she does lean back in her chair. If they were somewhere a little less public it might have worked.
Donovan chuckles slightly at Kelly, once again shaking his head as he sips on his coffee before he looks back to Isabelle as she clarifies herself, offering her a slight smile. "Well, in that case, you're on your own there, bud." He offers to Kelly before he looks back to Isabelle. "Well, despite what Kelly has said about you and how hot he thinks you are, you seem nicer than some of the other popular girls from my old school. Even though I don't really agree with how you treat the underclassmen." He says, nodding towards the direction that the freshman went off to.
Kelly grins, shrugging gently toward his friend. He also sends Isa a wink before he yawns. A look is cast toward the weather. So much rain! It's written all over his face. 'what will be done with the rest of the day!!!!!' "Sundays suck." He echoes eventually. "Nothing good ever happens and it always rains."
Isabelle shrugs, "It has less to do with how I treat them and more to do with how they let themselves be treated really," she explains. "If you ask me, it was sweet of him to offer to carry my umbrella for me."
Donovan smirks slightly as he looks to Kelly, shrugging his shoulders. "Try living in the Northwest. Rains more days than it doesn't, but yes, Sundays do suck" He offers with a smile before he looks back to Isabelle as she speaks again, glancing in the direction the freshman went. "Well, perhaps, but making him get your coffee and then shooing him away was pretty rude." He offers as he looks back at her. "But to each their own, I suppose."
"Eww. No thanks." Kelly allows toward the idea of life in the northwest. "I'm perfectly happy here..most days." He sends a glance back over the boardwalk, his eyes lingering on a passing jogger in a slicker suit. For a moment he envies such dedication, but then..na, He ignores Isabelle, rather pointedly for the moment, but not so much that he looks away from her. "I think maybe, I'm going to find something to do. Sitting here is great, but I'm gonna come out of my skin any second." ADHD does no sit well, after all.
"I didn't make him do anything," Isabelle reminds the boys. "I asked, that's all," she concludes with a smile, standing to collect her shopping bag and umbrella from the chair beside her where the freshman left them for her. Her asking might not have included all the niceties, but for her it was asking. "Anyway, it was nice finally meeting you," she comments to Donovan. "Kelly," at least she's acknowledging him. "But I have a spa date with my mom. "Toodles."
