While there's nothing spectacular about September 27, there IS something spectacular about /Friday/. Due to impending weekend fun, this part of town is humming with activity. People wander the sidewalks, while others crowd around tables in the various dine-in options. This one's no different, though it *is* slightly slower. You can get your food and hear your conversation. That makes it a little less nerve grating than down on the boardwalk.
Slipping through the doors, Kelly sends a glance over the room, his eyes narrowing toward the few empty tables. Then again, there are /empty tables/. Another step up from the boardwalk. He heads for the nearest seat, dropping into it with a small yawn. Come forth waitress-like person! Don will also work.
Usually Fridays are the days that most kids should be out enjoying themselves, Donovan is, unfortunately, working. While a waitress doesn't exactly show up at Kelly's table, instead he gets Donovan who is dressed in the uniform of the establishment. "Welcome to New Leaf Deli. What can I get you to drink?" He asks, as he sets a menu down in front of him before he pulls out a notepad and pencil from the smock tied around his waist. He seems to be only one of three who are currently working the floor. As he waits for the drink order, he takes a moment to quickly scan the room.
Krysten gets off at the nearest bus stop and heads into the deli. This is one of her favorite places to hang out in her free time, at least when she's hungry. "...ohhiDonovan," she says softly as she spots him, passing quickly on the way to one of the other empty tables. She's carrying what looks like a big sketchbook under her arm, and she opens it up once she sits down, flipping through it and concentrating on the drawings within.
"Dude...I would eat so much less Chinese if I knew you worked here." Says the slow speaking (and mildly sleepy looking) Kelly. "And you've been here like three days and you're already making me look like a lazy bum." MAYBE longer than three days, but the best part is that Kelly actually recognizes his neighbor. "I really just want a coke." He decides with a yawn. "And a seat that doesn't constantly get jostled around by raving cheerleaders." The passing girl gets a glance as well, one that transfers seamlessly over to Donnie as the 'waiter' is addressed. He doesn't say it, but Kelly does send his neighbor a grin, and a slow arch of his brow. It's smug. Kelly, is smug.
Donovan glances back towards the door as it opens, smiling as he recognizes Krysten as she enters from the other times that she's been in the deli before since he's started working here. He offers her a slight wave at her greeting to him. "Hey Krysten. I'll be right with you." He offers to her before he looks back to Kelly smirking at his comments. "Yeah. It's the first job that hired me right away and I took it. Needed it for my car payments." He offers with a slight shrug. "It's a living, plus I get free subs after work." He says as he writes down the drink order. "I'll leave the menu there in case you get hungry later." He offers before he heads off to go take care of Krysten's order then to get the drinks. "What can I get for you?" He asks the girl once he arrives at her table.
Krysten looks up. "I'll have an iced tea, thanks," she says to Donovan with a little smile. "Hey, um..." She looks hesitantly at the sketchbook before picking it up again, flipping through the pages, and turning it to face Donovan. There's a drawing of a gray wolf on it. "Do you think this one looks good? I've been trying to draw wolves lately..." she explains.
Kelly nods, allowing a small chuckle to part his lips. "Any job is a good job, especially if it pays for a car." He seems perfectly fine letting Don by without teasing, perhaps because from behind him, Krys manages to distract both Donnie, and Kelly as well. Her words draw that much more of Kel's attention. He tilts back in his chair, allowing his head to fall back to look at the sketchbook best he can. Not that he's an art expert. "Wolves?" It earns a blink from him still, "How very....thrift shop, of you." Don't blame him. Blame the girl three tables over for her conveniently selected ringtone.
Donovan writes down Krysten's order of an iced tea and smiles. "Sure thing. Anything else?" He asks before her question comes up. He looks at the sketch pad for a moment, analyzing it for a few moments with his head tilted slightly to the side. "It looks good. I like the detailing you did here." Pointing to a spot on the drawing. "If you add a bit more shading here on the hide leg and again with the front, it'll help show off the musculature of the wolf and make it more realistic. Not too much though. Just a touch." He says with a smile, before Kelly's comments cause him to shake his head slightly before looking back at her. "Don't mind him. I think he fell out of the truck and hit his head before he came in here." He says with a playful tone.
Krysten giggles at Donovan's comments. "Thanks," she says, making a mental note to do what he suggested when she gets back home. "It's different than drawing horses. More fur," she notes. "And nothing else yet... I already had my salad at supper."
Kelly narrows his eyes toward Krys as he is, in his opinion, unjustly ignored. He still allows Donnie the moment though, and the joke. "I just really woke up." He admits finally, allowing his chair to fall forward against with a loud *clank* to the tile floors. "I was supposed to study with Ellis but she had something come up, and so did my mom." Judging by his expression, it 'came up' in the house. And so, here he sits. "I'm thinking I may just permanently move into the treehouse. It seems less likely to put me in therapy than staying in the house." Least he's in good spirits about it! You just have to learn to laugh it off, after all.
